home - abstract - the woven series

by joan élan davis 2010
mixed media on canvas 14" x 14"
When man and nature collide there is a sense of chaos being organized. So often we experience a subtle transition when going from a natural peaceful setting to a man made city filled with small alleys, scaffolding, boxes of color and lit up buildings, windows and multi veneered doorways. This painting, Explanation, is an aerial view of a man made plan for construction for living our lives and a comment on how we utilize space, color and form in our city plans whether it be international or domestic.
The colors in this special intimate sized painting for the Woven Series by artist Joan elan Davis, gives off a shimmer and sheen in unexpected hues of gold, silver and violet as if day is going into evening. The black line drawings define a sense of structure where even the smallest marks play an important role in the overall composition. This painting will stand the test of time and lends itself to many an interesting Explanation.
